Well, this trip had been a long time in the planning. Months ago, we had been chatting with our friends, Dave and Joan, and mentioned that we were planning to go down to Disneyworld in Florida for a bit of a winter break. Joan told us that they had never been to any of the theme parks because they had thought that they would be too commercial. Well, over the course of the following few months, we convinced them that Disneyworld is not just another theme park - that it's actually made for adults, not for kids (but please don't tell the kids that). Ultimately, they decided that they'd take our word for it and come along too.
What a whirl-wind trip ! We left Haliburton on Thursday, spent the first night in a Super 8 (it was still too cold) in Florence KY, the next night in a KOA in Valdosta GA, the third night visiting our Haliburton neighbours, Barb and Dave, at their other place in Deland FL, and then checked into Disneyworld at noon on Sunday. We spent four days in Disneyworld and then headed home. The first night northbound, we stopped in a KOA in Cassville GA. The second night we stayed in a Super 8 in Windsor ON, and then we were home for dinner on Sunday. Round trip: 5,280 km.
But what a great time ! The weather was a touch on the cool side, but perfect for sprinting around Disneyworld. You see, we met up with Tom and Thelma who were in the middle of their annual two-month stint in residence in Fort Wilderness on the grounds in Disneyworld. And when Tom and Thelma say that they're going to show some first-timers the highlights of Disneyworld, then you'd better strap on your very best runners and hang on - it's gonna be a bumpy ride ! Thelma's cousin, Carol, and her husband Clive had flown over from England a day or two before we arrived and were staying in "The Doll House" (Tom and Thelma's 5th wheel) with them. Pictured here (L-R) are Wendy, Dave, Thelma, Joan, Carol, and Clive. I was taking the picture and Tom was off scoping out the nearest washroom.
Overall, it was a great trip. The rig ran great, we got to spend some quality time with some really good friends, and we managed to dodge three huge weather events (good planning or good fortune ?) on the way home.
