Years ago, back in high school, the group that I hung around with mostly consisted of people in, or associated with the swing band I was playing in then. Once in a while, a bunch of us would get invited up to Pam's family's cottage for a weekend. It's on a beautiful small island in Georgian Bay. How she ever talked her parents into it, I'll never know !
At any rate, Wendy and I were chatting with Mike and Pam about work that they'd been having done at the cottage and they invited us to come over and spend the day with them on the island. So Wendy and I decided to drag the RV over to the KOA campground near Parry Sound for a couple of nights. Now, the Parry Sound KOA is nothing to write home about ... Our "campsight" was a tiny little area that faces the wrong way and was shoe-horned into a little wedge at a junction of two lanes ... Made me think it was just added as an afterthought. But we had a great time anyway !
Mike and Pam came by about noon on Saturday and we headed out to the island. It was amazing to be back there again after so many years ! The main cottage looks pretty much as I remembered it, but the boat house looks better than it ever did. Pam & Dee have had a lot of work done on the pier supporting the boat house and it looks like it'll be there for about another hundred years.
After opening up (and putting beer on ice), we wandered around for a while. Muggins had the greatest time roaming free and exploring in an area from which she couldn't escape. Then we uncovered the boat to go for a little tour. We headed south down to Snug Harbour and then started back up the inland channel that exists in amongst all the rock formations. There's something very comfortable and familiar about the rocks and the big white pine trees in this area that takes me back to all the times we went camping in Muskoka as kids. As you can see from the picture (right), Captain Muggins was very diligent in her efforts to make sure that the first mate (Mike) didn't run us aground on the rocks.
Many thanks to Mike and Pam for a great day !
